LOS ANGELES, California – A man shot and killed an off-duty Los Angeles County deputy. Additionally, the incident occurred on Monday afternoon.
Furthermore, hospital officials announced the deputy’s death on Wednesday. Sheriff Alex Villanueva said the 50-year-old deputy, Joseph Gilbert Solano, died at the hospital.
The suspect shot Solano at a Jack in the Box. Specifically, the restaurant is in Alhambra.
Villanueva said, “Deputy Solano was known as a kind-hearted and generous family man, a provider for his mother and an exemplary father to his children”.

Moreover, his step-daughter Jessica said, “he has been in my life for over 11 years. And not only did I lose a father figure, but a best friend. Don’t forget about him. He was a hardworking man and was loved by many.”
Furthermore, police officers arrested a Utah man in connection with the shooting. Officials arrested 30-year-old Rhett Nelson on Tuesday. Additionally, officials found a revolver matching the shooting in Nelson’s car.
Furthermore, officials found clothing in Nelson’s car that appeared to match clothing worn by the gunman in surveillance tapes of the incident.
Villanueva added, “The deputy was alerted in the restaurant that someone was following him and that’s when he turned to confront it. He confronted a threat not knowing what it was and in a split second he lost his life.”
Currently, officials have not released a motive.
