This summer has shown a steep rise in COVID-19 cases in California, according to wastewater tests. Cases were seemingly on the rise as we moved into summer, but some denied these numbers. Now, tests show the evidence of the virus’ presence, proving the “summer COVID bump.” The tests have shown numbers similar to what we saw during the winter spike, according to the CDC. The levels in California have increased enough to fall under the “very high” category of the CDC’s rankings, joining six other states in that category. Additionally, positive test results have almost reached the same number as last year’s peak, which hit in late August. Even though we have all already been through several rounds of this pandemic, it is always good to have a reminder of how to stay safe and avoid getting sick.
Take Precautions Such as Wearing a Mask
We know, you are probably over wearing face masks. But, they do work and are a safe way to keep protected! You do not have to wear one 24/7, but if you are going into a potentially high risk situation, such as going to a large crowd event, wearing a mask is a safe and easy precaution to take! Furthermore, if you are sick and showing symptoms, wear a mask if you must be around people. Even if you test negative at first, you could end up seeing positive test results. Furthermore, even if your sickness ends up not being COVID, the mask will help prevent the spread of whatever you do have.
Test if Possible
The best way to know if you have COVID-19 and to prevent the spread is being aware of its presence. If you are feeling sick, take a test to be safe! If your symptoms continue but you were originally negative, test again as you may not show a positive result right away.
Practice Social Distancing Again
In 2020 and 2021, we got really good at giving everyone personal space. Overtime, we lost that again. If you are worried about getting sick, try to stay at least six feet apart from people when out and about, such as at the grocery store. If you are sick, stay home/away from others as long as possible. In the new world we live in with COVID-19 coming and going, we simply have to be prepared to adjust a bit here and there to prevent the spread of the virus as much as possible to prevent another massive overtaking of the virus.
